Adopting the service

The .govt.nz name space is reserved for statutory entities and Government programme, including the Public Service, Crown Entities, local authorities and a variety of other bodies with statutory responsibilities. This does not include State Owned Enterprises and may not include some Local Authority Trading Enterprises (LATEs).

Eligible organisations that would like to register a .govt.nz domain name must submit their application through the DNS Service management portal, but are encouraged to contact the ICT Moderator beforehand.

Organisations with existing .govt.nz or .parliament.nz domain names can use the DNS Service management portal to:

  • keep their registrant, administrative, and technical contact information up to date,
  • set the name server delegation for all their .govt.nz or .parliament domain names and,
  • add or modify DNS zone data for their domain names hosted on the government name servers.
