Government Enterprise Architecture for New Zealand (GEA-NZ) Standards Reference

The GEA-NZ Standards Reference provides a catalogue of digital and ICT standards used across the New Zealand Government, and mapped to GEA-NZ's ordered classification. GEA-NZ is a multi-agency single unifying framework to enable government digital transformation and government digital services.

The GEA-NZ Standards Reference is managed by Government Enterprise Architecture (GEA), Department of Internal Affairs on behalf of the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO). Email GEA@dia.govt.nz to contact GEA. Leadership in the selection and maintenance of standards is carried out by individual lead agencies (for example, Archives NZ provides and manages New Zealand Government recordkeeping standards, and LINZ provides and manages New Zealand Government geospatial standards). Established lead agencies will continue their role of managing standards appropriate for their domain of activity. New standards and changes to status will be reviewed and agreed in an agile manner through the Government Enterprise Architecture Group (GEAG) which meets monthly. There will be regular updates if and when changes are made.

The intended audience of the standards reference is (but not limited to):

  • Architects of government agencies
  • Chief Information Officers
  • Professionals involved into development and delivery of business and ICT solutions
  • Supplier and Vendor community

The GEA-NZ v3.2 Standards Reference Excel workbook, first published on ICT.govt in January 2018, is a searchable, sortable, and filterable catalogue mapped to the GEA-NZ v3.2 reference taxonomies which provide a common language across business functions, data and information, application and software services, and infrastructure.

The GEA-NZ v3.2 Standards Reference Excel workbook replaces the GEA-NZ Reference Standards v2.0 and GEA-NZ Reference Standards Appendix published in 2013. These documents have been deprecated and are withdrawn.
