Enhancing the product platform

Often the initial product increment(s) will be made available on a restricted product platform because the starting workload and customer base is small.

During this stage of Live, the initial product platform is developed to support increasing the numbers of customers by improving the availability, resilience, and capacity of the system.

Ongoing monitoring for security, application performance and process performance is also established.

The aim of this stage is to:

  • develop the product platform to support increasing customer numbers.

The actions carried out during this stage may include:

  1. Negotiate service level agreements and service level objectives for the product platform operation.
  2. Invest in additional infrastructure to increase platform resilience.
  3. Extend available hours of service.
  4. Develop business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  5. Establish BAU user administration processes.
  6. Apply data backup and archive processes.
  7. Create capability or asset management plans.

The outputs from this stage include:

  • improved capacity of the product platform.

A variety of industry approaches are available, for example ITIL or IT Service Management. These tools are the responsibility of the relevant agency(s) and are beyond the scope of this document.
