Gain project approval


This stage involves:

  • presenting the business case to get the project (and funding) approved
  • creating a plan of approach for the approved project that includes governance and sign-off. It must be agreed by the sponsor and approved by the Project Board.


The aim of this stage is to:

  • identify funding sources
  • create a funding model/proposal
  • gain approval for the project, and how the project will progress from this point.



Actions which may be carried out during this stage include:

  1. Choose a funding source.
  2. Create a funding model/proposal.
  3. Prepare a project plan (using a plan of approach workshop) that includes governance and sign-off processes for the project from this point onwards.
  4. Review the project plan with the sponsor and present it to the Project Board for approval
  5. Present the business case A3 summary as a request for funds.


The outputs from this stage include:

  • governance proposal for the sponsor and the Project Board
  • secured resources (including a core team) for Alpha.
